  • Calling All Young Women: CSW & DWP Ramp-Up Recruitment Efforts for Young Women of DWP program
    Rayshell Chambers, Outreach Coordinator

Starting this September, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), in partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), are calling the young women of Los Angeles, ages 16-18, to join the Young Women of LADWP program and explore new and exciting careers in water and power. This dynamic program seeks to expose young women to exciting career opportunities at DWP and ignite an overall interest in non-traditional careers through various field trips, job shadow days and internship opportunities.

Moreover, the program will give students the opportunity to learn more about programs offered through LADWP that prepare them for non-traditional careers, including the LADWP Student Worker Program, Infrastructure Academy, and the Youth Service Academy (YSA). In addition to an invaluable experience, the program will enable participants to develop sustainable mentor relationships with women working in DWP.

Through our collaborative efforts with city departments and community organizations, CSW seeks to reach its goal of increasing recruitment and retention of women into non-traditional careers. For information about the Young Women of LADWP program and how you can nominate a young woman to participate, please contact CSW at (213) 978-0300.
